In-Progress Renovacy

Renovancy #2 Sassy’s Cabin (In Progress, most recent update is Chapter 2)

Sassie’s Cabin renovancy is a continuation of AdWilson’s Sassafras scenario which itself is a continuation of the of adwilson’s No Room for Phailure based on SamelaRita’s McPhail renovancy. SamelaRita has several great scenario lot/families to download on her blog. Sassie’s Cabin may contain spoilers for those so you will want to check them out if you were planning to play one. Alternately you may wish to read those stories before reading this if you are interested in the sisters’ backstories for context. I will be following their rulesets as best I can, with the except of locating the story in Hidden Springs. The Sassafras scenario has them moving to another neighborhood, but I really love Hidden Springs. (Sorry for breaking continuity.) I have a few self-imposed rules as well. You can read about, discuss, and find more Renovacies here.

Renovancy #1 Molly Harris in Aurora Skies (On Hold, currently chapter 15)

The challenge is based on Ciane’s container home variation of SamelaRita’s Renovacy Challenge. A copy of their rules are also at the bottom of this page.

Renovation-legacy Rules

Set ages to default mode.

If you have seasons, set each season to either 7 days, or 3 days if you want to play with short years.

No money cheats.

The family starts with no money at all. If they have any, take it off them!

No adult can have a career or profession: nothing with a proper salary. They can make money fishing, collecting and selling things, gardening, playing for tips, sculpting, inventing and selling your products at the consignment store, dumpster diving…but no jobs (though there can be an exception for one part-time job if it’s essential to the story.)

Children can sell baked goods or lemonade, if you buy the stand and a cooker.

Teens can have a part-time job

The renovating rules

All flooring and walls have to be papered over – you can’t sell the floor or wall covering that’s already there.

You can repaint things to make them look better, but you have to pay 25 simoleons for everything you paint – make a donation on the mailbox.

Your aim is for everyone to have their own bedroom (spouses can share, and babies or toddlers can go in with someone else), with a bed, curtains, bedside table, lamp and dresser or desk or toybox.

Bathroom/toilet goal is one between two. At least one with bath and one with shower.

Kitchen is fridge, cooker, sink, three counter units, lighting, and clock, picture and bench accessory.

Dining room/area is table, enough chairs for everyone plus a visitor, rug, lighting, two pictures .

Sitting room is enough comfy seating for everyone, coffee table, two plants, lighting, two pictures and either television or stereo.

Garden area: if there are plants here that you want to get rid of, you can sell them, but you can only spend the money on fences or walls or other plants. The goal for the garden is to have it fenced and gated (to keep the children safe). You can score a garden like the rooms though, by adding things to it.

Creating a family rules

One adult or teen must have the Good trait so that they can make donations on the mailbox.

The family can be as hard to play as you like, and as big as you like. There must be one adult, though, and if the adult is a grandparent, then there has to be one teen.

Container Challenge Ruleset

Start out with a 4×10 Shipping container home. Ciane has one here

move in the sim of your choice and live by any means not requiring you to fill out employment forms.  You really want to live off-the-grid and not have a 9-to-5 (or whatever) type of job.

As soon as your partner or room mate moves in (or one full sim week passes), you must buy another 4×10 shipping container

How you configure the shipping containers is up to you, though OBVIOUSLY, the original shipping container stays in the same location. Each week that passes OR each new addition to your family gives you the opportunity to add another shipping container. At this point, you may freely use all build mode options.

ADWilson’s House Rules

*Nothing in their personal inventories can be sold. Use or not use, the choice is up to you.

*If there are plants in the yard that you want to get rid of, you may sell them, but can only spend the money on fences, walls or other plants.

*If items are sold and not moved elsewhere on the property, there is a removal fee of 5% per item (based on the total amount that your Sims receive).

My self-imposed guidelines just an optional way I’ve tried to make the challenge a little more realistic for myself. My self-imposed rules may vary by scenario.

*If sims move into a house with old or dirty bedding they need to wash it before they can use the beds.

*Sims must have a source of heat in the winter, and a way of venting heat or cooling off in the summer.

*No shopping from the fridge, sims can only use ingredients if they grow them, catch them or buy them from the store. Sims send a $100 donation once a week if using quick meals, and can only eat up to 10 servings total so they are at least $10 a serving for the convenience.

* For construction sims need to either be out of the home and ‘pay’ a contractor by donating or if it’s a DIY they need to idle for relative game time to allow for the work to be done.

My (incomplete) Modlist can be found here.
