Chapter 4: Exposed

At Dawn, Molly pulled the itchy blanket over her face. She didn’t want to face the day. She had so much to do and no idea where to even start.

She felt awful. She didn’t want another salad, she wanted to live a normal life. She brushed her teeth and got dressed in a huff.

She decided to spend the morning in her garden. Maybe some time outdoors would cheer her up. Or at the very least some stretching would help her back after sleeping on that old bed.

She spent a little time mopping up the mess.

Realizing it was an exercise in futility she decided to focus on her plants instead.

She was getting really tired so she stopped to make a green salad for lunch. Somehow it was more appealing now.

She cleaned up after lunch and went back to gardening.

She noticed something strange when she was watering the trees.

She found some seeds she had never seen before. She put them in her bag to be identified later.

She also found a strange mushroom. Perhaps someone will know what it is.

The trail of seeds leads her to the waterfront. She takes a moment to admire it. With everything that has gone wrong, it’s hard to remember what has gone right. She felt lucky to be here.

With her spirits lifted, she packed her harvest and went to the farmer’s co-op. She hoped they would let her use their community kitchen to make some jam.

Upon arriving she met Jakob

They had a nice chat. He knew about gardening and gave her tips on weeding.

She used the communal kitchen to make some preserves. It was a little intimidating at first, she still doesn’t know much about cooking.

She had some tea while waiting for the preserves.

Jakob Played some guitar, some of the sounds were notes. It was nice to have company.

She had a little more time while her james cooked, so she borrowed a book on gardening.

After reading it, she felt more confident. She was starting to understand the basics of gardening.

She consigns the mushrooms she found earlier, and the preserves she made.

It was getting late, so she went home.

After a few nights of rough sleep, she was too tired to shower before bed. She brushed her teeth and went to bed dirty.

Things are so uncertain, but they are starting to look up. She wistfully sighed to herself as she climbed into bed.

She tossed and turned for a few hours, then awoke to a metallic scrape.

She was being robbed! She froze in place, the robber took Herluf’s old computer and left in a rush.

She called the police. She just couldn’t shake the feeling she was being watched.

The police said there wasn’t much they could do as they didn’t have a lot to go on. After the officer left she was still too nerve-wracked to go back to bed. She really needed to find a way to secure her home.

She decided to treat herself and make some pancakes. Then she burned them, the smell permeated into her hair and pajamas.

She opened the door to vent out her house. She stood outside and let out a scream. Could anything else go wrong?

The scream was a little cathartic. She went back inside and tried again.

Success, she was starting to grasp the basics of cooking. She was finding strength in herself she didn’t know she had.

She savored her small victory.
